I had a chance to visit it twice. If you expect lush gardens with green spilling everywhere, ivy-covered gazebos and unruly flower beds, then Keukenhof will disappoint you. But if you like bulb flowers – tulips, narcissus, muscari, hyacinths etc – prepare to be overwhelmed by the sheer numbers and beauty of them.
As it turns out Keukenhof is the most photographed tourist attraction in Europe (if not in the world). And indeed, you have to be careful because it seems that from every flower bed there are at least 3 long photo lenses which stick out – the owners are easy to miss since a lot of them crawls on the ground – a sacrifice necessary to get that perfect tulip shot.
So if there are, literally, millions of pictures taken in Keukenhof every year, why take more? Is there anything which will make them different from all the others? I say – who cares about all the others, if I can get beautiful tulip shots to hang on my wall? Or to make a calendar with? Compared to many other flowers tulips may seem bland, but I think they undergo some sort of magical transformation once immortalized on a photo – or what do you think? I hope a selection of my shots below will be your inspiration!
