To the Dutch – and those living here – taking photos of windmills is just so…cheesy. After all, to them they are just another kind of buildings which have been out there for decades, and one of many elements of their history. To the tourists – taking a picture of a “reel Dutch windmill” is an undisputable must.
I’ve lived in the Netherlands for a year and a half one, and if I stand close to the dining room window in my apartment I can see a windmill, picturesquely standing in a small park, at the edge of a canal. And yet, the windmills have not lost their attraction to me. Yes, they’re a stereotype of sorts and tourist attraction for masses, and yet there’s just something majestic and charming about them, and they certainly look great through a photo lens!
