We went to a shopping centre today and passed by a tourist agent, whose windows were decorated by posters full of alluring beaches, huge palm trees, brilliant blue seas - you get the picture. The longing I felt when I saw them almost hurt !!! So today, I have for you something which will remind you of warm summer days, balmy nights and hanging around a swimming pool - a Summer collection by Riverdale Can you smell summer already?
It's still undeniably winter outside and my feeling of being cooped-up (and as a result - exasperated and frustrated) must be peaking... I want it to be warm enough not to wear 5 layers of clothing all the time, not to get goose bumps every time I finish showering and reach for a body balm and to be able to leave home without scarf, cap and gloves... Know the feeling? We went to a shopping centre today and passed by a tourist agent, whose windows were decorated by posters full of alluring beaches, huge palm trees, brilliant blue seas - you get the picture. And since I seem to be on the roll when it comes to the topic of winter wedding bouquets, here is yet another one. This time I went for strong colours and bold form, as if to defy the sleepy winter atmosphere. Still, all the flowers used in it are available this time of the year. The arch-shape is a classic one, even though surprisingly many brides-to-be have not heard about it. I guess it's because all the wedding flowers catalogues nowadays are filled with complex, often futuristic and one-of-a-kind creations, which are always great to admire - the way art is - but not really ideal for a lot of brides. Anyway, the arch form is perfect e.g. for 20's style dresses or any dress with an empire-line, so if that's what you have in mind for your Big Day - this style will suit it really well. A few days ago I posted a photo of a feather-rimmed wedding boquet, perfect for a February bride. And even though it's almost March now, there's a thick layer of snow lying on the ground and the temperature is freezing, so I guess a season for winter wedding bouquets will be a bit longer this year... But don't worry, here is another one of my designs which I recommend for a snowy wedding - a scepter filled with white carnations, and some gerberas, chrysanthemums and pearls thrown-in. Perfect for a winter wedding queen, isn't it?
Today I'm introducing slide-shows to my blog - yet another great way of presenting photos. I've started with compiling a short presentation "the best of my flower arrangements - Autumn and Winter." Lots of details and close-ups in there, but I like it this way, and I've chosen my favourite pieces from last October, November and December - hence tha apples, chrysanthemums and Christmas accents. It's a very good proof that even though this cold and dreary part of the year isn't exactly well-known from its abundance of flowers, you can still make some creative pieces if you use your imagination ;-) The winter is on but surprisingly that doesn't mean that the wedding time is off. True, maybe more couples say the sacramental "yes" during the spring and summer months, but there's still quite a few weddings taking place this time of the year.
One of the challenges facing February brides would be a rather limited choice of flowers available, but with what today's floristry can offer, it's hardy a problem anymore. So you can either go for splashy colours which, in a way, defy the winter time, or you can use the winter aura as your floral theme - with white colours, snow-like textures, shimmering pearls, fluffy feathers etc. If you like the second option, I have an idea for you - a feather-wrapped creation from carnations, hypericum and pearls. I must say I really enjoyed making it, even though I usually don't go for feathers in other areas of life. Like it? Something or somebody out there does have a rather ironic sense of humour, since on the day I proclaimed the beginning of Spring on my blog, winter has come back.
It's been snowing ever since, and the temperature has dropped drastically... But I'm being persistent in my defiance, and a huge part of it is that I started another Floristry course this past weekend – this one a year-long, professional one. I guess this means that you can expect quite a few flower-related posts in the upcoming months :-) And since working with flowers is a great way to remind yourself that Spring is indeed just around the corner, here is another idea for an interesting, natural-looking table arrangement – I’ve used a woven nest-like wicker container for it. Feeling the inspiration? :-) It’s an established fact that I am a bit crazy when it comes to handbags, and I’m not afraid to admit it ;-) Since the beginning of this blog I’ve shown you quite a few of my favourite brands and designs, and some incredible handbag-creations which bordered on art – bag designs made entirely from flowers and leaves, sculpture-like bags from polymer clay and quite a few others. And today I have for you yet another handbag-novelty – handcrafted from wood. Small, smooth, with flowing lines, rounded shapes and intricate patterns, each and every one of them is original, eye-catching and interesting. And in case you still have any doubts – yes, you can actually use them as handbags, these are not wooden sculptures to admire from afar. I fell in love with the one with the ladybugs, shown on the photo on the left, but the other ones would be a stunner on any night-out as well. Apparently all bags are manufactured from a certain type of African acacia tree, and the designs are supplemented with exotic skins, leathers, crystals, gemstones and pearls. They belong to the UK fashion label called Rocio, founded by Hamish Menzies, Theresa Nepomuceno and Rocio Olbes. You can find more information about them and their incredible creations here, and below is a selection of their handbags for you to browse. No, I haven't lost my mind and I'm not trying to give you false hope; I do realize that it's -10 Celsius degrees outside and the sky is permanently overcast with snow clouds. Not to mention that it’s February 17th, not March 21st, not the day when Keukenhof opens and Easter is still far away – so however you mark the official beginning of Spring, it’s not today. But I just can't help it, the grey Warsaw winter makes me long for it to end even more than is usual for this time of the year! But while I have no control over the seasons and the weather, I do have control over my blog (at least most of the time… as long as the server and my Internet connection are cooperating willingly ;-). So as of today it’s Spring on The Creative Life, which you probably have noticed by now – I’ve launched an entirely new theme and layout on this occasion. There’s green, there’re tulips and daisies and cats – and thus we have Spring :-) I hope you like it, since it’s here to stay for the next few months! It's the third day in a row during which we actually got to see some sunlight - it's more than we got to see in the last three months! So, does that impressive statistic mean that Spring is coming? I wish I could believe it, but it's probably still some weeks before that happens...
But in order to keep your spirits up, a remainder how colourful, funky and optimistic Spring can be - as seen in the new shoe collection by Irregular Choice. And as I said before - these might not be the most comfortable shoewear out there, judging from the way they look, but just think what a statement they make! And notice the one with rabbit-shaped buttons - shall I interpret it as Easter special? ;-) If you're a guy who still doesn't have a Valentine's gift for the woman of your life (which, by the way, means you're in big trouble) or a woman who still didn't have the opportunity to suggest what she wants to get, here is a hint for you. As the saying goes, jewellery works best, and why shouldn't it? Here are a few nice designs for a heart-shaped pendant, from subtle to more rich, from silver and gold to coloured, from simple to more elaborate. See something you like? All found here.
