I have to admit that I prefer something more original, but these are quite easy to make, neither time nor material consuming, and there are very few limitations as to the type of elements used, colours, shapes etc., so they do have their merits. So, for the sake of inspiration, here we go:
This year in Poland - at least according to all the floristry-related magazines - the most fashionable kind of Chrsitmas arrangements is the one prepared on decorative trays. So, following the trend, I decided to experiment with it - and here are the results.

And here is a rather unusual Christmas window decoration, made with floral techniques taditionally reserved for wedding floristry. Let's call it an experiment, but I'm quite happy with the result. So if traditional Christmas arrangements do not inspire you, maybe this one will ;-)
This morning I have for you another decorative Christmas idea - Christmas-tree-like arrangements, but with a modern, conical shape. Sleek, simple and eye-catching, they're the opposite of the wreaths which usually overflow with the abundance of everything. Put a few of these together on a table, and you have a creative and original room deco. The first one is made almost entirely of walnuts, glued to each other and to a copper wire net on the inside. I think it took me several hours to glue it together, and my eyes were already tearing-up by the time the construction was ready for glitter-spraying - but I'd say the final result was worth all this effort: And here is the other one I prepared; it's made from a styrofoam cone covered with evergreen twigs fastened with a gold floristic wire, with a cute-looking woolen cup and small tee balls glued on. Ingenious, isn't it? ;-) And the good news is that both of these will keep for a long time, so they're also perfect as a gift for someone special.
And I sure went crazy this year with Christmas decorations! And even though it was time-consuming and physically exhausting, I certainly do not regret it – not only does our house look very festive right now, but I have spent many, many hours happily creating :-) I think I made 10 or more Christmas wreaths – some for us, some for presents for friends and family.
There are so many ways to decorate a wreath that each and every one was quite different and unique. Here is the first batch of photos, which hopefully will inspire you to start some wreath-making of your own ;-) In Poland, there's always the danger that you'll spend the entire Christmas holidays eating and sitting in front of a TV. So I'm glad to report that I have another option for you, perfect for a cold and hard winter like this one - bird feeding. You're certain to get some exercise while hanging and filling the feeders, and then have a lot of fun watching a variety of birds which come to visit - they're are ferocious eaters! And of course it's a perfect opportunity for some bird-hunting with your camera - here are a few shots which I took during the weekend preceding Christmas, while visiting my grandparents. Cute, aren't they? And who would've thought that even woodpeckers will come to visit! :-) Christmas has finally arrived! :-) :-) :-)
All the best wishes to all my readers, I hope you all have wonderful - and of course creative - Christmas time! Only two days left till Christmas, and still so much to do - baking, cooking, cleaning, decorating and, of course, last-minute Christmas shopping. So here is an idea for those who are still desperately looking for a cute and fun gift for someone - the winter accessories line by KappAhl. They're not only pretty, but also perfect for the long and cold winter which has been ruling in Europe for over a month now. Here are my favourite pieces from the collection, and you can find more here.
Remember when I wrote last year that Dutch gardening centres are an amazing place to relax, to shop, and to walk around among decorations and arrangements so beautiful, that you feel as if you were walking in a magic wonderland? I miss them sorely this year... Anyway, it turns out that German gardening centres are also not bad, and this is the kind of cheery arrangements you can find there this time of the year :-) I took the photos in the GC next to the A10 shopping centre in Wildau, on the way to Berlin. I should have more of them later this week. Great for inspiration, great for presents, and great just for wandering around and admiring stuf. Enjoy! |
