Asia is an entirely different world. Yes, it is full of cultural contrasts, wild nature and spectacular views. It’s great for trekking, sailing, coral reef viewing and seeing all the spices from your kitchen cupboard growing in their natural habitat. But it’s also a place where – if you’re European – cultural shock hits you on the head at every corner, tropical heat intermingles with tropical rain which means you’re wet 100% of the time and food comes in a number of colours and shapes, it’s always spicy and often has the tendency of looking back at you from the plate. A place where tourists live in rich enclaves and 150m further locals dwell in mud huts with no electricity. A place where tones and tones of rice are eaten every day 3 times a day, going to a toilet is a suspense-level experience and crossing the road should definitely count as an extreme sport. In other words, we absolutely loved it!
