In case you haven’t guessed yet, I’m talking about chocolate brownies – the delicious brunettes of the bakes word.
Brownies are an American invention, something in-between a cake and a dessert. Quite flat and rectangular, the good ones are fudgey and gooey inside from their high chocolate content and low content of all the other ingredients While extremely popular in some countries, they’re not so well-known In others; e.g. there are many places in Europe which have not discovered the delight of home-made brownies yet, so let’s change it!
There seems to be this preconception that good brownies are difficult to make. Believe me, it’s just a viscous gossip started by those desperate housewives who want to make an impression they’ve spent hours toiling in the kitchen to prepare a perfect bake and at the same time managed to squeeze in a spa-and-hair appointment, so that you can admire them. But in reality brownies are not more difficult to make than muffins (whose beauty of ingenious simplicity I explained in my previous posts), although they do require one more dish to get dirty – the pan for melting chocolate. But since it’s for chocolate, it’s well worth the sacrifice of a bit more washing-up to do, isn’t it?
An easy brownie recipe, which I’ve already tested at least a dozen times to the delight of my husband, will follow in the next post, but in the meantime let’s get to the brunettes vs blondes issue.
Even if you’ve only heard about chocolate brownies in the American TV series, the fact remains that you have heard about them. But have you ever heard about brownies’ blond counterpart, called BLONDIES?
Blondies, while definitely less well-known than brownies, can be equally mouth-watering. With the same shape and preparation/baking technique, the main difference – both in taste and colouring – comes from the fact that here we use white chocolate (but in equally copious amounts). While these are less gooey, the characteristic taste of white chocolate can be easily combined with raspberries thrown in into the batter, which easily compensates the lack of fudgey consistency!
Want to give blondies a chance? Come back to visit my blog, a tested recipe will follow soon in The (Creative) Kitchen Goddess series. And if you master these two recipes, you really will become a Kitchen Goddess in the eyes of the man you want to impress – the magical power of chocolate used to your best advantage – guaranteed!
