And again, initially I did not like this idea very much, but when I saw the possibilities and the eventual affect – I was fully sold!
This last weekend of my floristry course we experimented with interesting ideas for a wedding bouquets, and we were shown that floristry is so much more than just arranging flowers. A perfect example is this long, flowing wedding bouquet (although strictly speaking, I shouldn’t call it a bouquet…), made from flowers glued to a special wire cocoon, which we have woven from scratch. We have worked with the cheaper black wire, although for a wedding, you can go with a silver or gold one, or one in any colour you choose. And again, initially I did not like this idea very much, but when I saw the possibilities and the eventual affect – I was fully sold!

I'm busy, busy, busy... Today was the last day of my floristry course (which is really a great pity...I'll miss my busy flower arranging weekends a lot!), which I followed by a few hours of intensive Christmas shopping. And in the meantime I have for you a selection of Villeroy & Boch Christmas decorations of all kinds - small, precious and very, very Christmas-y :-) If you can afford it, they'd also make a perfect Holiday gift, even for someone who "already has it all." ;-)
God, it really is winter, isn’t it… The temperature hasn’t risen above -10oC for over a week now, and snow is lying everywhere. And to think that I spent 5 years of my life abroad explaining to everyone that contrary to the common believe and stereotype, Poland does not lie close to the Siberia, there are no polar bears roaming the streets and that there hasn’t been a severe winter in years… Well, it seems we have one now – and every morning I observe a lot of very unhappy drivers busy digging out their cars – and it literally is digging out, and I have photos to prove it! A few days more of snowing, and they’ll be looking for their cars under uniform heaps of snow… These photos were taken the day before yesterday, so it's actually worse now! This time I have for you two original gift ideas straight from Scandinavia, as I've found them at a DUKA store. The first one is an absolute hit for all the snackers and nut-lovers, and at the same time a cute decoration for Christmas – a squirrel-shaped bowl! Here it is: And the other gift idea is for those who like modern, streamlined design in their kitchen – an ingenious kitchen pot, mainly for herbs, which comes in 3 sizes and allows for controlled watering of its content – as shown below. Slick, isn’t it?
And yet another floral arrangement from my course - a contemporary one. The idea is to create a relatively flat form, with flowers arranged in parallel way, but with definite differences in their shapes and textures and small variations in height to make it interesting. A series of these on a long wedding table would work perfectly. I think that it can also be adjusted to create a Christmas version – e.g. with gold candles, red roses and carnations and an occasional pine twig.
Here are the two versions I’ve prepared – one with the green santini, and the other without. Are you feeling inspired? ;-) I’m just having a not-so-slight panic attack concerning Christmas – after all, it’s already 1st of December, and I’ve been so busy with everything lately, especially with my floristry course, that I’m waaaaay behind with gift shopping and other preparations.
So I’m planning a major Christmas shopping for this afternoon – even though it’s -13oC outside and thick piles of snow are lying everywhere - and in the meantime I have another gift idea for you – more Holiday teapots. Found them here. |
