It is, undoubtedly, a creative way of living, although it also is a challenging (read difficult and at times terribly frustrating) one. I should be able to speak from experience since I’ve already lived in Ireland, USA and Hungary, spent extended periods of time in Germany and England, and currently I live in the Netherlands (while originally I am Polish…).
Funnily enough, one of the reasons for my country-jumping has been (and probably still is…) me wanting to get to know other cultures and people, places. And sometimes the longer I am abroad, the more this “fascinating foreign culture” becomes more of a “frustrating foreign culture” – those who’s done it too know what I mean.
One of the things which help me to deal with the so called “cultural shock” is writing about it. Maybe some of you already read my feature “How to survive in the bicycle jungle” about living in Holland. Here comes another article from the series: "12 things to know if you move to Cork, Ireland" – something I wrote a few months after having moved to Ireland, and which even got published in the Cork local newspaper, the Evening Echo – so there must be something to it! ;-)
