To say simply that my father-in-law makes fruit liquors is a serious understatement – it is a passion and a hobby and a way of helping his extensive family (me included) get through winter evenings. He experiments with different formulas and recipes, every year comes up with a new kind of fruit he can turn into liquor and spends entire evenings puttering in the kitchen of a summer-house-turned-laboratory for this very purpose.
So far I’ve never had a chance to witness the process itself – just taste the final results – but the huge vats and bottles with layers of colourful liquid which needs to "mature" are more than impressive. It takes entire heaps of patience, kilograms of fruits and a real passion – but the results are delicious, cold-destroying and unique – not only a creative, but a definitely rewarding hobby.
