I’m sitting at home wrapped in a warm blanket with a cup of hot tea, I’m trying to work, and the only thing that keeps me from succumbing to Autumn depression are the two table arrangements I keep glancing at. They’re just soooo cheerful in their bright redness – I’ve already showed you the photos of the wreath yesterday, and here is the other one. It’s a classic table arrangement, this one from fresh flowers, but also with candles and some pine, so it can count as a Christmas one if need be. A good inspiration for a Christmas table decoration!
I look at the clock and I can see that it’s 10 o’clock in the morning, but then I look through the window and the “morning” part is hard to believe. I mean, if that’s the real time, you’d expect at least some daylight, right? But there is almost none – it’s so dark and gloomy as if it was already dusk time, probably the result of a constant wall of rain and swirling thick mists. In other words, it’s autumn weather at its lousiest….

And today I’m officially initiating the CHRISTMAS SEASON on my blog – after all, it’s less than two months till the Holidays!!! And for this occasion I have made a Christmas wreath – a real one, using the techniques learnt during my floristry course. It took 4 hours to make it (yes, I’m not kidding, that’s how long it took), but it was definitely worth it – I think it’s the most spectacular Christmas arrangement I’ve ever made!!!
It’s lying on my table right now and I just can’t get enough of it – I’m planning to make at least 4 more of these for Christmas, with various types of decorations and in different colours – never mind that my back hurts from all those hours of bending down and I have scratches all over my hands – I just love it. So I tell you – if you want to have a truly unique decoration for your house this Christmas, or a really touching gift for someone – go for a home-made wreath! I just came back from another part of my floristry course and I’m flying! Well, not literally, especially that I hurt all over, but I’m in this state of well-satisfied exhaustion, having spent all my creative and physical strengths up to their limits - on arranging flowers. The first task we faced today was to prepare an asymmetrical, linear and parallel-bound bouquet, and let me tell you, they might not look like a lot of work, but they certainly are. Here is my first attempt at such a bouquet: And here is the reason why I can hardly move – a huge (I think it had over a meter in diameter) funeral arrangement, which took over 2 hours to make and required some heavy lifting and crawling on the ground in order to evenly arrange the bottom part – but I must say the final result fully justifies the effort, even if I say so myself ;-) And here is the final arrangement we did today, also a funeral one, this one a bit smaller and tear-shaped – which was the biggest challenge (we had to adjust the length of each flower exactly right, so that a perfect tear is formed). I may not love yellow flowers that much, but combined like this I really do not mind! And tomorrow we’ll be doing my two favourite types of flower arrangements – table arrangements and Christmas ones, including wreaths – I really can’t wait!!! :-)
Yes, it really is a handbag The autumn weather outside the window is at its very worst, with constant rain, strong winds and heavy clouds, and I can sense the autumn depression just around the corner. Now, I’m not sure what guys do in a situation like this, but I do know what helps us, women, to fight the autumn blues – a healthy dose of retail therapy, of course ;-) So today I want to show you a truly unique – in a (completely) crazy and funky way – line of bags, which are guaranteed to have a jaw-dropping (and I mean it literally) effect on everyone around – the bags by Fuzzy Nation. This American brand is very, very crazy about dogs, which I think you can guess easily by looking at the photos below. And in case you’re wondering – yes, these are really handbags, not plush toys…I guess if you go to a restaurant with a bag like this, you need an extra seat just for it, and when your cuddly pooch starts to ring with your mobile’s ringtone, you’re guaranteed to get everyone’s attention ;-) One of the pet-projects I’m working on right now is making our apartment more cosy – so far I still don’t feel at home here, so I need to do some more nesting. One of the things on the agenda is to find some great bed linen, but the challenge is that I want it to be both pretty and eye-catching (but not nauseatingly cute) and at the same time smooth and pleasant to the touch. Not to mention that ideally it should be also affordable… Anyway, I’m still looking, and in the meantime I’ve come across a pretty interesting bed linen collection by Monsoon – here are a few examples from their collection. They look quite good and comfy – which one would you choose? You can find more at the Monsoon website. I’ve had a busy few days, but I’m back at home now and happy to report that the second day of my floristry training was incredible. All the training in basic techniques we had during the first day paid off, and I got a chance to create some beautiful bouquets and flower arrangements. So if you’re looking for a creative way to spend a weekend and you love flowers, a floristry workshop is something I’d really recommend! And here are some photo impressions from Sunday!
PS. I can’t wait till my next class! |
