The end of Summer is approaching fast and the time comes when children and teens should start preparing for school. While I’ve never been very enthusiastic about the school year about to start – who is - I’ve always had a weakness for end-of-Summer stationery shopping. I especially loved (and still love) notebooks and folders with beautiful cover – be it graphics, nature photos or collages. So this year I would like to draw your attention to a Nature line of stationery by the Italian company Pigna – subtle yet cheerful, inspired by flowers of Spring, fruit of Summer and leaves of Autumn. Here is what you’ll find in the new line:

Oh, it's definitely Summer outside - the heat wave which hit Poland last Friday seems to be here to stay, at least for some time. But there's plenty of us who instead of taking a plunge into a cool lake or lying on the beach and enjoying the sun must stay in the office, working in front of acomputer... For those who do, here are a few creative Summer wallpapers, which can surely bring a Summer feel to your desktop - all to be downloaded for free from www.wallcoo.net
A lot of us spends more and more time in front of a computer – whether at work or at home. And while a PC is an extremely useful tool, we can make it more pleasant to use by “pimping it up” or “personalizing” it with gadgets such as wallpapers, icons, clocks etc.
There are thousands of free wallpapers available on the Internet, but to find a really creative and original one is not so easy. But recently I’ve come across a series of creative Spring and Summer, Illustrator-made wallpapers on www.wallcoo.net – beautiful, craftily designed, original, optimistic. Here are my favouite few – you can download these and many more if you click here. Enjoy! In general, I am against generalizing and try to avoid applying stereotypes whenever possible, but…I can’t help if some of them are true in my case. Because I am a woman, and I do love clothes – and new clothes especially (which means – shopping!!!) – and no, there is nothing to be ashamed of. I think it’s even been proved by some American scientists that buying new clothes is, for a woman, one of the best mood boosters. And in this case I am certainly not going to argue with science – few things are a better pick-me-up than a new shirt or dress. So last weekend, having suffered through two weeks of stomach flu and simultaneously two weeks of Dutch autumn weather (both really not fun), I decided I do deserve a shopping mood-booster, and I ended up with the most original skirt I’ve ever had. Look at the picture – it’s not a bird cage, it’s a skirt with birds and bird cage bars sown on it. If an ordinary piece of clothing makes you feel better, think how much bigger a boost you’ll get from a creative one! I love this skirt – it’s original, it’s fun, it draws attention, it goes well with a lot of plain tops, and it has a great slimming effect (which should be no surprise – vertical elements like the cage bars are optically slimming). So why go for creative bits of clothing? Because If nothing else works, they might give you that small extra bit of incentive to crawl out of bed on a gloomy autumn morning and go to work… Officially, my job is not terribly exciting and certainly has nothing to do with photography. But that doesn’t change the fact that photography is something I want to do – nothing better than turning your passion into your profession. For over a year now I’ve been working on convincing everyone in my company that I am a good choice for corporate photographer – we do need hundreds of product shots, and have no good source of them. But I work in the Netherlands, which means that convincing someone that you can do something which is not exactly in your job description is…difficult (to put it mildly); that kind of initiative is not exactly supported. Still, I’ve been persistent, and slowly, slowly, I’ve been allowed to take more and more shots, especially that my photos proved to be good. And finally a project came along which kept my creative hunger satisfied for a few weeks, with all the planning involved – a 3-day photo shoot on location, of product pictures needed for promotion for the upcoming fairs. This might have been the most creative but also challenging and frustrating project of the last few years, not to mention exhausting, but – with the help from my visiting parents, since it’s my father who has a professional equipment – I’d say I can call it a success. One of the tricky things is that we sell various kinds of packaging – and packaging itself often is not very attractive visually – e.g. an apple tray or a film bag. I have yet to present these pictures at the company (keep your fingers crossed), but I can already see while working on the photos that they’ll be something. Here’s a peek preview of what we created! Soooo…have some time to spare at work, want to do something which you think you can very well, but it’s not in your job description? Go for it! It doesn't matter that no-one around you understands the principles of creative life... (or so I keep telling myself) |
